YES and NO!

I mean it\'s subjective, depending on what part of your past you’re reminiscing.
If it\' a bad experience, it is definitely something that shouldn’t be important in your present and future.
However, if it is a good experience, you should definitely hold it close to your heart for as long as possible.
But of course, even with this basic explanation, there are many dimensions to the answer to your question.

I mean, at times, it\'s also important to hold bad memories of the past just to learn from them.
And then there are good memories (like that of your school days) that are better off forgotten because they make you feel miserable amid all the problems you’re dealing with in the present. (\"Those were the best days,\" you think, lamenting over how things are bad at the moment.)
Then there\'s another angle to look at it… like the death of your parents.
You had some of the best days of your life with them. And it\'s something that you want to keep with yourself for your whole life. But then, in that case, you would also need to keep memories of their dead bodies lying on the floor in your conscious. And it is definitely something that you don’t want to carry in the future. So, it\'s difficult to separate parts of your past to remember a few and forget the others. It\'s not easy.
Again, there are many different dynamics to your question. It's not simple to answer whether the past is important to us or not.

There are so many things in the past that I want to forget. But there are also so many memories that I want to keep because they make me feel like I have lived and experienced life.
But all said, to be more definite in the answer…
Past is important to us, no doubt.
We should draw inspiration and life from it. We should learn from it. BUT we should never dwell on it. Never sit for hours auditing your old days, wondering and wishing about the \"what if\".
When bad experience starts creeping in our conscious, we should make ourselves so strong that they don’t affect our present and future.
It\'s nearly impossible to forget the past. So, instead of investing all the energy in the wrong direction, we should embrace it.
Remember the past. BUT live in the present.
Learn from the past. BUT act in the present.
Smile at the past. BUT laugh in the present.

REMEMBER…
The past is just a story we tell ourselves.
There\'s only so many times we can tell ourselves the same story. It will eventually get stale and boring and pessimistic.
So, instead, focus on writing new stories in the present for the future.
And then stack-up all those stories and save them to tell your children and grandchildren when you’re old.
Life is simple. Don’t make it difficult. Past is important to us. But the present is even more important. Focus on that.
