Balancing a glass of water in your palm, with your hand outstretched may seem like a piece of cake if it were for one minute or even five minutes. Now if I asked you to maintain that posture with the glass of water balancing in your palm, for three or four hours, you would begin experiencing pain in your shoulders in about fifteen minutes. If you try to sustain that posture for the full three or four hours, the agonizing pain will cause you to collapse from excruciating pain, long before you reach the third hour, leave alone the fourth.

Resentments are no different. What began as a tiny irritation or annoyance, when carried around in your mind for a long time, consumes most of your energies that you have little energy for anything else. When you are so completely consumed with resentment, there is no space in your being for spirituality, therefore blocking out all possible well-being.

When you fill your life with resentment, you inadvertently block out all love, happiness, health, and joy in abundance, which are the most important ingredients of a life of spiritual well-being. Now, from a state of unhappiness, lack of love, or the ability to love, poor failing health, and utter depression, you will begin to realize that it is not worth carrying those resentments around. Just the same as you would collapse, just balancing a glass of water for too long, the resentments you are carrying around will consume you so completely. So, to live a full life of spiritual well-being, you need to drop all resentment.
