Engineering at National Institutes of Technology ?

Located in India, these autonomous public institutes of higher education are known as The National Institutes of Technology (NITs). By the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, they are governed. Along with Indian Institutes of Technology, declared as institutions of national importance. From the Government of India, these institutes of national importance receive special recognition. Of India's National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system, the NIT Council is the supreme governing body. By the Government of India, all 31 NITs are funded. In India, these institutes are among the top-ranked engineering colleges, also for engineering institutes one of the lowest acceptance rates of around 2 to 3 per cent, in India second only to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). As NITs are autonomous, so it enables them to set up their own curriculum. At all these institutes, the language of instruction is English.

To upgrade to full-fledged technical universities the government decided these twenty National Institutes of Technology with the technology-based industry's continuing growth. In 2007, the National Institutes of Technology Act passed by Parliament enabling legislation and on 15 August of that year, it took effect. In the field of engineering, science, and technology, the target is to fulfil the need for quality manpower and across the NITs to provide consistent governance, fee structure, and rules. Each NIT is designated as an Institute of National Importance (INI) by the Law.
