Changing the country name in Google Analytics is not as direct as editing a setting manually, because Google Analytics automatically detects a user’s country based on their IP address. However, there are a few situations where people want to “change the country” in Google Analytics, such as updating account settings, changing reporting regions, or correcting location-related data.

If you want to change the account or business country setting, you usually need to update it in your Google account or billing information. To do this, log in to your Google Analytics account, go to the Admin section, and check the account or property settings. In some cases, the billing country is managed through your Google Payments profile instead of directly inside Analytics.

If your website traffic is showing the wrong country, it is important to understand that Google Analytics tracks visitors based on their internet IP location. Sometimes users may appear from different countries because:

  • They are using VPN services
  • Mobile networks route traffic differently
  • Internet providers assign international IP addresses
  • Bots or spam traffic affect reports

In these cases, you usually cannot manually change the country data for existing visitors because it is automatically generated by Google’s tracking system.

Some website owners also want to target a specific country for reporting or marketing purposes. In that case, you can create custom filters, audience segments, or reports inside Google Analytics. For example, you can filter traffic to show only visitors from India, the United States, or any other country. This helps businesses analyze regional performance more effectively.

If you are using Google Analytics 4, you can check country data by:

  1. Opening Reports
  2. Going to User Attributes
  3. Selecting Demographic Details
  4. Viewing traffic by country

You can also connect Google Analytics with tools like Google Search Console to better understand international traffic and search performance.

For businesses targeting global audiences, accurate country data is very important because it helps improve:

  • Marketing strategies
  • Local SEO
  • Ad targeting
  • Content planning
  • Language optimization

If you recently moved your business to another country, updating your business address, payment profile, and regional settings across Google services may help maintain consistency.
