When you are on a mission to lose weight, the first step is cutting extra calories such as junk foods, sweets and high-calorie beverages. Many people don’t know the right amount of calorie intake and consume more calories than the recommended calories.

Broccoli is a good choice for a weight loss diet because it is not only low in calories, but it is also good source of protein and fiber. Broccoli has many essential nutrients that your body requires when you are trying to lose weight and phytochemicals present in it show potential for breaking down even stubborn fats.

One cup of chopped, raw broccoli only has 30 calories, while the same amount of cooked broccoli has 54 calories. A cup of raw broccoli provides more than 100 percent of your daily vitamin C and vitamin K. It’s also a good source of folate and vitamin A and provides some vitamin B-6 and potassium as well. In a cup of cooked broccoli you will get all the nutrients except for vitamin C.

Vitamin C, calcium and chromium in broccoli also promote weight loss. Your body need needs vitamin C to synthesize a compound called carnitine, which is essential for converting fats into energy. Less fat is burned during exercise when you’re low in vitamin C, and people who consume a higher amount of vitamin C are more likely to lose weight faster.
