Animals are an essential component of our world. It plays an important role in balancing ecosystem or biodiversity. There are a huge number of animal species. It is expected that our planet Earth has about 8.7 million animals species. But due to extinction problem, we have only 1.2 million species in existence. Every classification of living organisms belongs to one Kingdom, of which there are five in total. These Kingdoms are known as Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protista, and Monera.

There are a total of 8.7 million animal species that we know of so far, but this number will be updated as scientists continue to explore our planet in search of new, unknown species. This is because there are still many tropical regions on Earth that haven't been fully explored yet.
A surprising fact about the number of animal species on Earth is that mammals only make up about 5% of them, while insects make up an astounding 40%. That means spiders alone account for millions and millions on their own! The most common types among all these animals are beetles (representing more than 10% of all known animal species!) and millipedes (which make up around 9%).
