There are many different types of mangoes available in stores today. Some varieties may be sweeter than others or produce more juice at harvest time. The type of mango you buy depends on your taste and the availability of the various varieties in the local supermarket.
Mango is a tropical fruit, with origins in Africa and Asia. The fruit's name comes from the Sanskrit word "māṃsā", which means "honeybee". The two most popular mango varieties are 'sepia' (the dark-colored variety that is more commonly grown in India) and 'golden' (the yellow version). Types of mangoes are totapuri, hapus, sindhura, banginapalli, ratnagiri, chausa and many more.
The first mangoes were grown by the Indians in South India, who then introduced the fruit to other regions around the world.
