There are three different outcomes of a basketball game:
1) A Tie - Both teams get 0 number of points
2) The home team wins if they get more points than the away team - Home team gets the “W”
3) The away team wins if they get more points than the home team - Away team gets the “W”
4) The game ends in a tie with one or zero overtime periods.
If there is an overtime, it is decided by who scores first. Whoever scores first, does not lose, though both teams can win during OT.
