For an Indian traveller, a one-week trip to Canada can realistically cost around ₹1.3 lakh to ₹2.5 lakh per person, including return flights, accommodation, food, local transport, visa and basic sightseeing. If you're staying with relatives or travelling very budget-consciously, you may spend less; if you're choosing central hotels, domestic flights and paid attractions, ₹3 lakh+ is quite easy to reach.

Canada is one of those destinations where the flight gets your attention first, but accommodation quietly eats a huge part of the budget. Toronto and Vancouver, especially, can make a “normal” trip expensive very quickly.

Expense Breakdown

For a 7-day Canada trip from India, a practical budget looks something like this:

Expense

Approximate cost

Return flights

₹60,000–₹1,00,000+

Accommodation

₹30,000–₹70,000+

Food

₹15,000–₹30,000

Local transport

₹5,000–₹12,000

Attractions

₹8,000–₹20,000

Visa + biometrics

About CAD 185

Miscellaneous

₹5,000–₹15,000

These are planning ranges rather than fixed prices. Flights and hotels can change dramatically depending on your dates and city.

Accommodation

Accommodation is where I'd be slightly generous with the budget instead of assuming you'll somehow find a beautiful downtown Toronto hotel for ₹3,000 a night.

Hostels and shared accommodation can keep costs down, while decent private hotels may easily cost ₹7,000–₹15,000+ per night in major cities. Toronto and Vancouver are generally more expensive than smaller Canadian destinations.

If you're travelling solo, hostels make a massive difference. For two people, splitting a hotel room can sometimes make private accommodation much more reasonable per person.

Transportation

Canada is huge, and this matters more than people realise while planning.

If you're staying within Toronto, Vancouver or Montréal, public transport can handle much of your sightseeing. But Toronto → Vancouver isn't a casual day trip—they're thousands of kilometres apart.

Adding domestic flights, trains or rental cars can therefore increase your trip cost substantially.

My approach would be to explore one region properly instead of trying to squeeze Toronto, Vancouver, Montréal, Banff and Niagara Falls into seven days just because they're all in Canada.

Visa

Indian passport holders generally need a visitor visa to travel to Canada.

The current visitor visa processing fee is CAD 100 per person. If biometrics are required, the individual biometrics fee is another CAD 85.

So the basic government fees can total:

CAD 100 + CAD 85 = CAD 185 per applicant

The Canadian government specifically warns Indian applicants against agents charging inflated amounts for the application itself.

One-Week Budget

For one person travelling from India, I'd roughly plan:

Budget trip → ₹1.3–₹1.6 lakh
Comfortable trip → ₹1.7–₹2.5 lakh
Premium trip → ₹3 lakh+

Suppose you spend ₹75,000 on flights, ₹45,000 on accommodation, ₹20,000 on food, ₹10,000 on transport and ₹15,000 on sightseeing and miscellaneous expenses.

That's already ₹1.65 lakh before unexpected shopping or upgrades.

And let's be real—telling yourself “I won't shop at all” before an international trip is a very optimistic financial strategy.

Saving Tips

Book international flights early, travel outside peak summer and holiday periods, stay slightly outside expensive downtown areas, use public transport, compare hostel and hotel prices, and avoid changing cities every two days.

Also check whether your accommodation has a kitchen. Even replacing one restaurant meal a day with something simple can make a noticeable difference over a week.

FAQs

Is ₹1 lakh enough for a Canada trip from India?

It would be tight once international flights and accommodation are included. Around ₹1.3–₹2 lakh+ is a more practical starting budget for seven days.

How much money should I carry for 7 days?

Your spending requirement depends on accommodation and itinerary. Canada also requires visitor visa applicants to demonstrate enough money for their stay; there isn't one universal amount because it depends on trip length and whether you're staying in a hotel or with friends/family.

Which Canadian cities are expensive for tourists?

Toronto and Vancouver can be particularly expensive, especially for accommodation.

How much is the Canada tourist visa from India?

The visitor visa fee is CAD 100, plus CAD 85 for individual biometrics when required.
