How to be South Asian in America?

America has colonized past and a secular present like most of the South Asian countries. It is not difficult to live in US if you are going there as a student. Because you will be in a campus and surrounded by students from all over the world.

South Asia consists of different religion and different culture. Each country is different from others. So life of one South Asians in the US will not be same.

Initially there will be problems because the skin colour. People will see your skin colour first then your calibre. Racism is there but not in all over US.

Americans will observe your eating habits, culture, behaviour with astonishment. It is difficult for them to understand different Asian culture and habits.

In the early days, South Asians who migrated to USA were from business communities. They started grocery shops, convenience shops, restaurants and so on. But now professional people are more in Asian American population.

The South Asians who are in the USA for generations are spreading their culture and heritage in US. They are more keen in following customs of their religion and caste then their relatives living in Asian countries. All the South Asian festivals are celebrated by their respective associations. Even Diwali is celebrated in White House.

But the South Asians who went to USA recently were modern generation. They don't bather about any body's custom. They changed and want to fit into American culture.

Like of South Asians in American is interesting only.
