How to Delete a Google Review

Whether you can delete a Google review comes down to one simple question: did you write it, or did someone else? Google treats these two situations completely differently, and it's worth knowing which one applies before you go hunting for a delete button that may not even exist.

If You Wrote the Review

Good news here, removing your own review takes less than a minute and requires no approval from Google. The review disappears immediately and permanently, whether you posted it last month or five years ago.

  • Open Google Maps and sign into the same account you used to post the original review

  • On desktop, click the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner and select Your Contributions

  • On mobile, tap Contribute at the bottom of the screen, then View Your Profile

  • Scroll down until you spot the review in question

  • Tap the three dots next to it and choose Delete Review

If Someone Else Reviewed Your Business

This is where most business owners run into trouble, because there's genuinely no way to delete a review someone else left about your business. What you can do instead is flag it and ask Google to evaluate whether it breaks their content policies.

What qualifies for removal

What doesn't

Spam or fake content

An honest but negative opinion

Offensive or hateful language

A one-star rating with no explanation

Impersonation (fake accounts, competitors posing as customers)

Criticism you disagree with

Clear conflict of interest

A review that's simply unflattering

Content unrelated to the actual business

Old feedback you've since resolved

To flag a review:

  • Log into your Google Business Profile and open the Reviews tab

  • Find the review, click the three dots next to it, and select Flag as Inappropriate

  • Choose the specific policy it violates and submit the report

Note: Google's team reviews the flag on their own timeline and decides whether it comes down. If your flag gets rejected and you're confident the review crosses a real legal line, like defamation, your next move is either appealing through Business Profile support with clear evidence, or speaking with a lawyer if the situation genuinely warrants it.
