To make a fruit cake moist, sweet, and full of fruits, the secret is using plenty of soaked dried fruits, the right balance of butter and sugar, and baking it slowly at a low temperature. Here are some simple tips:

  • Soak the fruits first – Use raisins, cherries, dates, and tutti frutti soaked in orange juice or milk for a few hours. This keeps the cake juicy and flavorful.
  • Use brown sugar – It adds extra sweetness and moisture.
  • Add butter and milk carefully – These ingredients help create a soft texture.
  • Do not overbake – Bake on low heat so the cake stays moist inside.
  • Mix lots of fruits – A good fruit cake should be full of colorful fruits in every bite.
  • Brush with juice or syrup – After baking, lightly brush the cake with fruit juice for extra softness.

A perfectly baked fruit cake should taste rich, sweet, soft, and fruity—just like a bakery-style dessert you would enjoy with coffee or snacks.

If you are addicted to Britannia’s fruit cake and have to buy it every day, here’s the recipe so that you can make it at home in your own way.

Ingredients:

• Semolina: ½ cup
• Sugar (Ground): ½ cup
• Milk: ½ cup
• Butter (melted): ½ cup
• Condensed milk: ½ cup
• Tutti Frutti: ½ cup
• Cashew nuts: ½ cup
• Walnuts: ½ cup
• Raisins: ½ cup
• Almonds: ½ cup
• Baking Powder: 1 teaspoon
• Baking Soda: ½ tablespoon
Method:
• Chop all the dried fruits into small pieces.
• Mix semolina, baking powder, and baking soda, and filter it.
• Mix butter, sugar, and condensed milk, and whip it till it starts expanding.
• Now add milk and beat the mixture thoroughly.
• Add dried fruits, raisins, and tutti frutti in the mixture.
• Heat oven to 180 centigrade and butter the cake container in which the cake has to be baked.
• Fix butter paper in the container, spread butter upon it, and pour the mixture.
• Bake it in the oven for 25 minutes.
• Take it out and check with a knife. If the cake sticks on the knife after you have stabbed it in the cake, the cake is not ready yet. Otherwise, it is good to go.
• If it is not baked, bake in oven till it turns brown.
• Take the cake out on a plate, and cut it in the desired shape for serving.
