The current day Kashi Vishwanath sanctuary is a moved one and not unique.
The first sanctuary could have been of 2000 years or more. It was crushed in the twelfth century by Mohammad Ghori.
At that point another sanctuary At an alternate area a long way from the first site was inherent the thirteenth century by Gahadvala Dynasty. At that point in fifteenth century, it was again obliterated by Ibrahim Lodi. In any case, it didn't confront a lot of pulverization. Again another sanctuary was redesigned at the site by Hindu Kings, yet was at long last obliterated and Gyanvapi Masjid was worked by Aurangzeb in the seventeenth century, whose leftovers are found close to the sanctuary.
In nineteenth century, the present Vishwanath sanctuary was manufactured a mile a long way from Gyanvapi Mosque with the joined endeavors of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Ahilyadevi Holkar.
