The Hindu temple Kamakhya Temple is famous to Kamakhya Devi. It is located on the Neelachal Mountain, 10 kilometers from Kamakhya and 8 kilometers from Guwahati, which is close to Dispur, Assam's capital. It is a temple dedicated to Sati, the Goddess of Power. Kamakhya Temple is one of Goddess Sati's 51 Shakti Peeths. Sati's mother is worshipped as if she were a vaginal goddess. In the month of June, the Kamakhya temple is shuttered for three days once a year. The goddess is said to appear during her monthly period when there is a blood flow that turns the Brahmaputra river scarlet.

The Nilachal Hills are home to Kamakhya Temple. From everywhere in Guwahati, you may get an auto-rickshaw or a cab. Assam Tourism Department buses go regularly to and from the temple from various sections of the city. From the Kachari bus stops, ASTC runs transport services to the temple. The buses run every hour between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Two rock-cut stairs leading from the bottom of the Nilachal Hills to the temple are the only way to get to Kamakhya Temple.
