Mamata Banerjee is gaining massively in West Bengal. However, when it comes to nationwide, BJP and PM Modi would be the biggest beneficiaries.

The ongoing WB CM Mamata Banerjee, CBI and BJP drama
– or Kolkata Police CBI drama – is exactly what was to happen ahead of General Election 2019. And it’s just the beginning. As we move close to the National election, regional parties would obsessively blame the centre for a witch-hunt. And the centre will, indeed, witch-hunt its counterparts.
Coming back to West Bengal…
Mamata Banerjee already enjoys massive support in the state. BJP, even with all its attempt, remains almost non-existent in WB. People don’t want the Hindutva party here. So, any measure TMC takes against the Modi government, it’s going to win brownie points for that. So, this showdown between Mamata and CBI is helping her amass good support in the state.
However, when it comes to the national picture, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remains a little-known name in the country, renowned primarily for the chit fund that she is accused to be involved in. So, BJP standing toe-to-toe with an alleged corrupt CM and her party is actually helping its narration of being a clean party.
In addition, the sold-out media is doing its part well to create a perception of good vs. bad in the ongoing Mamata Banerjee, CBI drama, with BJP portrayed as good and self-righteous. The Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar was phrased with “absconder”. (He’s the guy who was heading a SIT probing Saradha and Rose Valley Ponzi scam; many ministers in Trinamool, including CM, is accused to be a part of this scam.) A team of CBI tried raiding Rajeev Kumar’s house with no search warrant – something that media isn’t picking up.
BJP government is accusing Rajeev Kumar of hiding the evidence. It is even accusing him of being a part of the scam that unfolded in West Bengal in 2013.
The CBI has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, claiming that Bengal government is obstructing the probe into the scams. And that people in power are trying to electronically destroy the proofs.
The Kolkata Police CBI hearing at Supreme Court is underway. Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has said that there is NO evidence that Kolkata police is destroying evidence. However, he adds that if CBI proves its accusation, the court will come down heavily on Rajeev Kumar and even West Bengal government.

Mamata Banerjee is sitting on a dharna. Budget is to be presented in the State Assembly today.
The whole situation is unprecedented. As of right now, this Mamata Banerjee, CBI and BJP drama doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The Kolkata Police CBI controversy is expected to stretch longer. Mamata has made this a battle to “save the constitution”. Virtually every major opposition leader from across the country is supporting her – right from Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi and Omar Abdullah to Raj Thackeray, Chandrababu Naidu, and even former PM Deve Gowda.
Some people are calling what’s spanning in Kolkata at this moment a close resemblance to the Emergency Days.
Both Mamata Banerjee and BJP seems to be standing in precarious position. They both are betting high in their stands. War is on. Who will benefit the most from this in General Election 2019, a lot will depend on media. How the news channels are covering this story! But as of now, BJP is getting decent support nationwide, while Mamata Banerjee remains a tigress in West Bengal.
