Best Dog Breeds For Families With Small Children

If you’re planning to adopt a pet in a home with small children, there are a lot of considerations to make. You can’t choose aggressive breeds, and you also do not want high-maintenance pets. Here are some dog breeds you should actually consider adopting when you have young children.

Beagle

Beagles are short-legged dogs that work well with kids. They are obedient and, when trained well, are safe around kids. Beagles can handle loud noises and won’t be alarmed while out on a walk. This can be a problem if the dog runs into a busy road with the child. In such cases, you’ll need an attorney for car accidents in Puyallup to determine if you have a claim.

Boston terrier

The Boston terrier is another friendly dog that blends well in all homes, especially those with kids. This breed can live happily in an apartment because they require fewer walks than larger sized dogs. Terriers are also energetic making them great for kids with the same energy. However, they need to be trained with positive reinforcement to teach them good manners.

Bichon Frise

This French dog is known for its intelligence and charm. Their fluffy coats make them lovable but many people don’t know that the breed is very playful and suitable for kids. However, the breed may require a little more maintenance than others in this list. They have a fuller fur which is prone to matting. This means you’ll need to get it groomed professionally. Otherwise, they are perfect fits for your kids.

Cocker Spaniel

This tiny dog has an excellent temper, making it perfect for small, impatient children. Like many of the dogs on this list, the spaniel is fun-sized and adaptable to most surroundings. They can live in an apartment or a yard without being naughty. Also, it has a long coat, but the coat is easier to care for. You may not need professional help as long as you brush it daily.

Shih Tzu

Few pets match the cuteness of this Chinese dog. It used to be pampered by Chinese royalty, and this has made it the perfect companion for kids. However, they may need extra supervision in houses with children who are younger than five. This way the parent can monitor the interactions and make sure the child handles the dog properly.

American Eskimo

Regardless of the variety, this breed is perfect for families. They were originally bred for work, so they are energetic. However, this breed is better off in a stable home. It has a lot of energy and will not fare well in a home that's always empty. Also, its energy may not match much younger kids below the age of five.

Dachshund

Finally, we have the doxie, a German hunting breed. This little bundle of fun has the shortest legs on the list, but it is also the most pleasant for families. Most of these dogs do not need high maintenance, such as professional grooming. They are also perfect house pets when they are trained properly.
