Here are some great ways to stay active as you age:
Regularly do aerobic exercise. It's any activity that gets your heart pumping, like walking, swimming, biking, dancing, or gardening. Strive to achieve a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week.
Do strength training at least twice a week. This helps build muscle and bone mass, keeping you stronger and less prone to injuries. You can use weights, resistance bands, or your own body weight for these exercises.
Practice balance exercises. They help prevent falls, which can be a big concern for older adults. Try tai chi, yoga, or standing on one foot to improve your balance.
Stay active all day long. Avoid sitting for long periods; instead, keep moving throughout the day. Take short walks, do light housework, or stretch every hour.
Find activities you enjoy. The key to staying active is finding things you love doing and will stick with. It could be anything from walking to dancing to playing golf. Enjoying the activity makes it easier to stay motivated.
