Africa has a wide variety of minerals that have been mined for centuries, and the amount of minerals in Africa is astonishing. One of the largest mining operations in Africa is located in Zambia, where copper and gold are extracted from an open pit mine.
In addition to diamonds and gold, thecountry also contains reserves of iron ore, platinum, uranium, silver, beryllium, and titanium.
In Nigeria, tin, lead and zinc are among some valuable minerals being mined from a quarry outside Abuja.
