A digital marketing course is basically where you learn how to promote a business online — things like SEO, running ads on Google and Facebook/Instagram, managing social media pages properly, email marketing, and understanding analytics (basically how to check if your marketing is actually working or not). Earlier, businesses used to depend only on newspaper ads or word of mouth; now almost everything happens on Google and social media, so this skill has become quite important.
I did a course myself around 5 years back when I was trying to switch careers, and honestly, the biggest thing I learned is that these courses only work if you actually practice — like start a small blog, run a test ad with a small budget, try to rank something on Google yourself. Attending classes and watching videos alone won't get you very far; this is a practical skill.
As for who should join — I'd say:
Students/freshers who want a skill outside their degree
People trying to switch careers (I was one)
Small business owners who are tired of paying agencies without understanding what they're doing
Freelancers who want one more service to offer clients
Working professionals who want to add digital skills to their resume
One thing I'll be honest about — no course can guarantee you a job or a fixed salary, so if any institute is promising that, be careful. What a good course should give you is proper hands-on training and live projects, not just theory.
