A keyword is a word or phrase that describes the main topic, idea, or subject of a piece of content. Keywords help search engines understand what a webpage, article, or document is about and help users find relevant information.

For example, if you write an article about the word game Letter Boxed, some keywords might be:

  • letter boxed

  • letter boxed solver

  • NYT Letter Boxed

  • letter boxed answers

  • word puzzle game

In SEO (Search Engine Optimization), keywords are important because people type them into search engines when looking for information. If your content naturally includes relevant keywords, it has a better chance of appearing in search results.

Types of Keywords

  • Short-tail keywords: Broad terms such as "puzzles" or "games."

  • Long-tail keywords: More specific phrases such as "NYT Letter Boxed solver today."

  • Branded keywords: Terms related to a specific brand, such as Google or "NYT Letter Boxed."

  • Informational keywords: Used when people want to learn something, such as "what is a keyword?"

A keyword is a word or phrase that people type into search engines to find information, products, services, or answers online. In SEO, keywords help search engines understand what a webpage is about and determine when it should appear in search results.

For example, if someone searches for "best running shoes," that phrase is considered a keyword. Businesses, bloggers, and website owners research keywords to create content that matches what users are looking for. By using relevant keywords naturally in titles, headings, and content, websites can improve their visibility in search engines.

Keywords come in different types. Short-tail keywords are broad terms, such as "shoes," while long-tail keywords are more specific phrases, such as "best running shoes for flat feet." Long-tail keywords often have lower competition and can attract visitors with clearer search intent.

Keywords are important because they connect users with relevant content. They help search engines understand the topic of a page, improve SEO performance, and increase the chances of reaching the right audience. However, modern SEO focuses on using keywords naturally and covering related topics rather than repeating the same phrase excessively.

In short, a keyword is the term people search for online, and using the right keywords helps content become more discoverable and useful to the audience searching for it.

What are Keywords?

Keywords are words or phrases that are used in search engines, digital marketing, and content strategy.

Types of Keywords

There are 9 keywords: short-tail, long-tail, short-term, long-term, product-defining, customer-defining, geo-targeting, and intent targeting

Keyword-based on length

Keyword Length Type categorizes search queries based on the number of words they contain into “Short Tail Keywords” (comprising 3 or fewer words) and “Long Tail Keywords” (comprising more than 3 words).

History of Keyword Research

Keyword History shows ads to users who previously read a question that contains a specific keyword. This lets businesses target users who visited groups of questions in a given time period.

Why is keyword research important?

Keyword research helps you to understand the search intent for your target keyword(s). By typing in your target keyword into Google Search, you'll be able to see what results come up.

Keywords are the specific words or phrases that individuals type into search engines when they want to find something online. For instance, if you wanted to purchase a new jacket, you would type a phrase like "men's leather jacket" into a search engine like Google. These keywords help search engines match your query with relevant results. They play a crucial role in how information is found on the internet. By using the right keywords, you can quickly locate what you're looking for.
