So one thing for which Ghana is quite famous for is the fact that it is the very first African country to achieve independence from the colonial rule. It set the example for other African nations to follow its suit and make themselves independent of the European chains. This makes Ghana one of the leading African countries today despite the small population and area.
It was mainly gold, found easily on the lands of Ghana, which attracted the colonial traders there and make them form the future British colony of Gold Coast. Modern-day Ghana largely consists of the Gold Coast only. During the colonial period, Ghana was also an important site of the ***** trade and cacao production, the plant from which cocoa is extracted.
