Growth and expansion in a biological sense refers to any process in which an organism or cells increase their total mass at a faster rate than they increase their surface area in a geometrical progression. In the geological sense, it is the part of earth's history where the crust was formed. Growth and expansion is also seen in eukaryotic cell biology, where cell division results in net growth of cells that have already divided.
In human anatomy, growth is used primarily to refer to physical development during childhood and adolescence.
