The Industrial Disputes Act of 1947 is an act enacted by the Government of India. It was an extension of several provisions in the Indian Trade Unions Act (1926) and it sought to reduce industrial strife between employers and workers. The act was repealed by the Industrial Disputes (Amendment) Act, 1993.
This act forbids strikes, lockouts, boycotts against any person or authority for benefits under the act. It also creates a Mediation Board which shall consist of five members appointed by the Central Government who are qualified to be judges of high court or central civil service probationers with tenure up to seven years on such terms as may be prescribed in this behalf.
