Industrialization is a process that is the transformation of an economy from one based on individual or family production to a new type of economy in which large-scale industry and manufacturing predominate.

It is a socio-economic process that began in Great Britain during the Industrial Revolution, reaching its first peak during the period of mass production reached approximately 1870–1914. This occurred before important sociopolitical transformations and led to major changes in population distribution as well as vast landscape alterations. The industrial revolution byproducts included social stratification, growth of towns, rise of cities, greater productivity, increased mechanization and rationalization against unemployment which then followed economic recession.
