LLM SEO, or Large Language Model SEO, refers to the practice of structuring and developing online content so that large language models and AI-powered search systems can understand, interpret, and accurately use that information.

It is related to traditional SEO, but the objective is somewhat different. Traditional SEO is primarily concerned with helping search engines discover, understand, and rank web pages. LLM SEO also considers how information is interpreted when users ask AI systems questions and expect a direct, contextual answer rather than a list of links.

For example, a business that wants to be understood for a particular service should not rely only on repeating a target keyword. Its website should clearly explain what the business does, who it serves, where it operates, what makes its offering different, and provide enough supporting information for both users and AI systems to understand the subject accurately.

This makes content quality especially important. Clear topical coverage, factual accuracy, consistent information across the web, logical site structure, first-hand expertise, and credible references can all contribute to making a source easier to understand and evaluate.

It is also important to clarify that LLM SEO is not a shortcut for getting mentioned by ChatGPT or other AI tools. No legitimate strategy can guarantee that an AI system will cite or recommend a particular website. The stronger approach is to build authoritative, useful, and well-supported information that can stand on its own.

In short, LLM SEO is about optimising information for an environment where people increasingly discover and evaluate information through AI-generated answers, alongside traditional search results.
