By default all links are dofollow and search engine bots along with humans are also able to follow them. You also get a backlink in the form of a dofollow link. Dofollow link example:

Search engine bots do not follow nofollow links. Only humans can follow them. Although your article or website does not benefit much from

Nofollow links, but both these links must be in regular quantity on your website. To make any link nofollow, rel = "nofollow" is added to it. Example of nofollow link:

Is a link Dofollow or NoFollow how to check?

If you have opened a website in the browser and you want to check a link, then right-click on it and select Inspect element. 

If that link is nofollow, then you will also see rel = nofollow with the link. The dofollow link does not contain a rel tag.

If you want to nofollow all external links in a page, then use meta robots in the header of the page.

When and where should I use Dofollow and Nofollow links?

Dofollow : 

  1. If you know that the website you are linking to is a high-quality authoritative website.
  2. Websites with High Domain Authority.
  3. If you have copied the content from someone's website, then to mention the source.
  4. To link Same Niche's blogs.


  1. To link unrelated content. For example, suppose your website is on health and you want to give a link to the fashion website.
  2. If for some reason you have to link low-quality websites like Betting, Gambling, etc etc.
  3. In the Comment section.
