Scientific Names of some common jellyfishes are:

  • Aurelia aurita
  • Cyanea capillata
  • Cyanea cylindracea
  • Cyaneaglauca
  • Cyclotella diaphana
  • Scyphozoa acanthocystis

The jellyfish is a medusa in the subphylum Medusozoa. Most jellyfish have an umbrella of umbrella cells covering their bell, a feeding stomach in the form of a mouth like structure called the oral hood, and their locomotion is accomplished with hundreds to thousands of cnidocytes lined with nematocysts that sting and paralyze prey.
