Although the Election Commission was set up in January 1950, the first general election was held in India between 25thOctober 1951 to 21stFebruary 1952 in which the Indian National Congress won its tremendous victory and Jawaharlal Nehru formed the government at Delhi. It was mere few years after India got its Independence (1947).In this post Independence era, it was the first stupendous challenge taken by our great leaders then.
