Ram Navami in India will be celebrated on Thursday, 26 March 2026. However, the thing is, some traditions and Panchang calculations may observe the festival on 27 March 2026, especially based on the Udaya Tithi (sunrise timing). That is why you may come across both dates depending on the tradition being followed.

Ram Navami is celebrated on the Navami Tithi (ninth day) of the Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra. Since the Hindu calendar is based on the lunar cycle, the festival does not fall on the same date every year in the Gregorian calendar.

In 2026, the Navami Tithi begins on 26 March and continues until 27 March, which is why there is a slight difference in celebration dates among different traditions and temples.

Ram Navami is one of the most important Hindu festivals because it marks the birth of Rama, who is believed to be the seventh incarnation of Vishnu. The festival celebrates Lord Rama's values of truth, righteousness, courage, and devotion.

I think one of the reasons Ram Navami is so widely celebrated is that Lord Rama is seen as an ideal son, husband, king, and human being. His life continues to inspire millions of people even today.

On Ram Navami, devotees usually:

  • Visit temples dedicated to Lord Rama.

  • Observe fasting or special prayers.

  • Read or recite the Ramayana.

  • Participate in bhajans, kirtans, and religious processions.

  • Offer fruits, flowers, and prasad to Lord Rama.

Many devotees also celebrate the occasion with family and community gatherings, especially in Ayodhya, which is traditionally believed to be Lord Rama's birthplace.

So, if you ask me when Ram Navami 2026 is being celebrated in India, the answer is 26 March 2026 for most calendars. However, some religious traditions may observe it on 27 March 2026 based on Panchang calculations. Regardless of the date followed, the festival celebrates the birth of Lord Rama and reminds devotees of the importance of truth, duty, and righteousness.

Ram Navami is one of the most holy and big festivals for every Hindu in India. It is the day when we celebrate the birth of Lord Shri Ram, who is the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. If you are looking for the correct date for Ram Navami 2026, there is a little bit of confusion because of the Hindu calendar timings, but don't worry, I will explain it simply.

In 2026, Ram Navami will be celebrated majorly on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

The reason for some confusion is that the Navami Tithi (the 9th lunar day) actually starts on March 26 around 11:48 AM and it finishes on the next day, March 27, at 10:06 AM. Because Lord Ram was born exactly at midday (noon), most people and temples in India will celebrate the main festival on March 26. This is the best time to do your puja and visit the temple. However, some places that follow the Udaya Tithi (the day when the sun rises during the tithi) might also celebrate on March 27.

Important Puja Timings (Muhurat)

The most important time for Ram Navami puja is the Madhyahna Muhurat, which is the midday period. In 2026, this auspicious time is:

  • Start Time: 11:13 AM

  • End Time: 01:41 PM

  • Main Birth Moment: 12:25 PM (This is when people usually do the special aarti and swing the cradle of Bal Ram).

Why we celebrate Ram Navami?

We celebrate this day because Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya. He is called "Maryada Purushottam," which means the perfect man who always follows the path of truth and duty. For us Indians, Ram Navami is not just a holiday, but a day to remember that good always wins over evil.

How people celebrate in India?

Across India, the celebrations are very beautiful. In places like Ayodhya, millions of people gather to take a dip in the Sarayu River and visit the grand Ram Mandir. In South India, many people celebrate it as the wedding day of Lord Ram and Mata Sita, called "Sitarama Kalyanam."

At home, many families keep a fast for the whole day. They clean their houses and decorate the puja room with flowers and rangoli. People sing bhajans and read the "Ramayana" or "Ramcharitmanas." For food, special items are prepared like Kheer, Puris, and a sweet drink called Panakam. Many people also do "Kanya Puja" on this day, where they invite small girls to their homes, treat them like goddesses, and give them food and gifts.

In 2026, since Ram Navami is falling on a Thursday (Guruvar), which is already a day dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is considered very lucky. It is a great time to start something new or do charity. So, mark your calendar for March 26, 2026, and get ready to celebrate with joy! Jai Shri Ram!

It's the ninth day (Navami) of Chaitra Shukla Paksha, marking Lord Rama's birth. The Navami tithi starts around late morning on the 26th (around 11:46 AM IST in Delhi) and ends early on the 27th, but the main observance and public holiday follow the sunrise rule (Udaya Tithi), so it's observed on the 26th.

Many sources like Drik Panchang, TimeandDate, India Today, and public holiday calendars confirm March 26, 2026 as the date, with the gazetted holiday on that Thursday in most states.

Some traditions (like certain Vaishnava groups) might extend special puja or mark it on the 27th too, but the primary celebration and fasting are on the 26th.

Happy Ram Navami in advance
