It is said that Ashwathama settled around the Asirgarh fort for the last 5000 years and he worships Lord Shiva at the fort shrine. It is believed that he was the first devotee of the day of Lord Shiva. It is believed that in Kaliyuga, his name is “Suryakanta”. Ashwatthama will be in search of death every moment, and yet he will never die.Ashwathama was cursed to wander Kaliyuga because of his sinful act of killing 5 sons of Drupadi and he also use Brahmastra to kill Parikesit(son of abhimanyu) who is still in the womb.Because of this action, Krishna cursed Ashwatthama as : He will carry the burden of everyone’s sins on his shoulders and will travel alone until the end of the Kalyuga. He will suffer wounds that cannot be healed. Thus, Ashwatthama will seek death at any time, but he will never die.It is believed that at the end of Kali Yuga, Ashwatthama is to meet Sri Kalki, the tenth avatar of Lord Vishnu and die.
