Below is the list of top 10 colleges from different fields that are considered the best in the whole country for their educational quality, the exposure they provide, and their environment. The list was released by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.


1. Miranda House, New Delhi

This college is only for girls and is one of the most popular colleges in the north campus of University of Delhi. It offers almost all the courses in Humanities, Commerce, and Sciences on under graduation and post-graduation level.
2. St. Stephens, Delhi University 

By far, it is the best college of University of Delhi and one of the most coveted one in all over India for the studies of Arts and sciences. It is also one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in India and has produced a line of notable alumni.

3. Bishop Heber C Bishop Heber College, Tiruchirappalli

Offering various courses, this college is situated in Tamil Nadu. The college has been recognized by the University Grants Commission as "College with Potential for Excellence" on September 2011. In the Third Cycle of reaccreditation by NAAC, it has been accredited with 'A' Grade with a GPA points of 3.58/4 on 3rd March 2015.

4. Hindu College, Delhi

Situated right in front of St. Stephens, this college always remains in neck to neck competition with St. Stephens in almost every field. Founded in 1899, Hindu college offers under graduate and post-graduate courses in science, humanities, social sciences, and commerce.

5. Presidency College, Chennai

It is an arts, law, and science college in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It offers almost all undergraduate and post-graduate courses along with doctorate degrees. P. Chidambram, the former finance minister of India, is one of the many notable alumni of this prestigious institution.

6. Loyola College, Chennai

The college offers courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The arts/humanities stream includes English, economics, commerce, history, Tamil and sociology. Science courses include physics, chemistry, botany, zoology and computer science.

According to the sources, “Loyola College is the only college in the state capital Chennai with "A+" accreditation from NAAC. India Today magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 ranked Loyola number one in India for science degrees, and in 2007 in both science and humanities. The Department of Scientific and Industrial Research has recognized Loyola College as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, the highest research honor for an Arts and Science College.”

7. Shri Ram College for Commerce, Delhi

This college is considered to be the foremost institution in India for having a degree in Commerce or Economics. It offers the courses such as Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), Bachelor of Arts - Economics (Honours), Master of Commerce, Master of Arts – Economics, Post Graduate Diploma in Global Business Operations.

8. Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi

This college is only for girls and it is the most coveted college for girls in Delhi. It is an arts and commerce college, and it has been ranked 1 in Arts and Education, 2 in Commerce and 3 in Mass Communication by India Today.

9. Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira Howrah

Situated in Howrah, West Bengal, this college is affiliated to University of Kolkata. The college offers BA and B.Sc. (Hons. & General) programs in six and eight specializations respectively. Apart from this, it has MA in three specializations and Msc. in two specializations.

10. Madras Christian College, Chennai

Situated in Madras, this college offers various courses in liberal arts and sciences. It has been ranked in top ten colleges of India consistently. Apart from academics, it is also known for its festivals, music, and culture.
