Remember this point while buying any type of Binocular
Field of view - it is a really important aspect in Binocular, so the field of view is nothing but viewing area. Remember if Magnification is higher then your field of view will be less.
Magnification - it represents your closer view, so if your binocular is 8x40 then you can see an 8 times closer look. in other words, zooming power.
Quality of the Image - It depends on your objective lenses so if you compare 8x40 binocular with 8x50 binocular then the second binocular will give you more clarity.
Remember If binocular has 8x40 specification then the first number represents Magnification (8 times closer look) and the last number represents objective lenses (40mm)
