Ethologists are people who study human and animal behavior. They focus on how particular species interact, food hunting, mating, child care, and more. Ethology is the scientific study of animal behavior at all levels-from genes to populations to ecosystems-and it is complementary to other fields in biology such as ethology and ecology.
The word "ethologist" was coined in 1905 by the German zoologist Max Bergmann. In English, "ethologist" is an adjective describing a person who studies ethology or animal behavior. The term actually comes from Greek words ēthos meaning "nature", and -logia for "study".
