The ancient Babylonians, Egyptians and Greeks all had a strong belief in astrology. But who created this discipline? Astrology is traced to the ancient sky-gazing culture of the Babylonians. The Babylonian zodiac first appeared around 1800 BC and they went on to develop a system of predicting heavenly events using astronomical objects like stars or planets. They also developed a system of astrology which described how an individual's personality traits are determined by their exact position within the zodiac year—for example, Leo would be ruled by fire, ambition, and beauty while Sagittarius would be ruled by archery.
