As a democratic country, the position of president is a prime one. In India, the president is the head of the constitution, but there are some presidents who could do nothing in respect to this position. Among the worst president, one must name Pratibha Devisingh Patil. She, being a president, could not act on any front except creating some issues.

As a president here, foreign tours and stay of relatives in Rashtrapati Bhavan created huge issues. She spent almost 250 crores behind the foreign trips and also pardoned some of the criminals from the death sentence. She has done no notable thing during her five-year tenure. She is also in the centre of another issue where she grabbed a huge piece of land for her bungalow after retirement, which was basically a land for soldiers and army officers. She had also taken the gifts which she had got being the president during her tenure and had to return them to the government after an RTI filed for the same. Hence there was no particular task she has done during her tenure for which she can be remembered as a good president of India. She took no decisions independently and was also considered as a puppet president though this applies to almost all the presidents.

Pratibha Patil is not just the worst president India ever had but arguably the worst president in the history of planet earth. The worst president any country could ever get.

Critics of President Pratibha Patil may have a point that she has not enhanced the prestige and glory of the high office. If the idea of catapulting a faceless woman politician from the interior of Maharashtra into Rashtrapati Bhavan was to advance the cause of gender equality in a country where even in the 21st century large sections continue to treat women as non-persons, nay, as chattel, Patil failed miserably. She was unworthy of performing the onerous role and duties of the high office of the Head of the Republic.Article image
