The first Indian to win the Nobel Prize was Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore was an Indian polymath. He won the Prize in 1913 for his outstanding contribution in the field of literature. He is regarded as the Indian Poet Laureate , and is known by the name Gurudev. He received the Nobel Prize for Geetanjali, which was the collection of poems.
