India got its independence on 15th August 1947. India's first Prime Minister after the establishment of the Constitution of India was Jawaharlal Nehru. He served India to his last breath and was one of the longest serving Prime Ministers in India. He was succeeded by Lal Bahadur Shastri and then the first woman Prime Minister took the oath to serve India, Indira Gandhi. She was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru.
