Vande matram is a peom written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in Bengali in 1870s. Bankim Chandra chattopadhyay is a great novelist and poets of India.

The poem was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore in the 1896 session of the Indian National Congress.

Chatterjee added his poem in novel anandamath in 1882.

Indian National Congress adopted Vande matram as the national song of India in 1937. Vande matram became a popular marching song of Indian freedom movement in 1905.
