Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (1897-1945) was an Indian nationalist leader and freedom fighter who played a key role in India's struggle for independence from British colonial rule. He is often referred to as "Netaji," which means "Respected Leader" in Hindi.

Bose was born in Cuttack, Odisha, India, and studied at the University of Calcutta before joining the Indian National Congress in the early 1920s. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Congress, but became disillusioned with its moderate approach to achieving independence from British rule.

In 1939, Bose formed the Forward Bloc, a left-leaning faction of the Congress that advocated for a more militant approach to the struggle for independence. He also sought support from Germany and Japan during World War II, and formed the Indian National Army (INA) with the help of Japanese forces.
