The Constitution of India was drafted by a Constituent Assembly that was established in 1946 to frame a constitution for India. The Constituent Assembly was composed of elected representatives from across India, including representatives from the princely states, and was led by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is often referred to as the "Father of the Indian Constitution."
The drafting of the Constitution took more than two years, and the final document was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as Republic Day in India.
