National Doctor's Day - History
You all must have heard about Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He was an outstanding doctor and also the second Chief Minister of West Bengal. He received the honor of Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India on 4th February 1961.
You may wonder about the reason for celebrating National Doctor's Day on 1st July every year in India. Right! The reason is none other than Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. You may be surprised to know that this legendary physician was born and died on the same date i.e. 1st July 1882 and 1st July 1962 respectively. However, in Cuba and Iran, the day is celebrated on 3rd December and 23 August respectively. In the United States, National Doctor's Day is celebrated on 30th March.
March 1933 was the very first time when Doctor's Day was celebrated. The celebration process was unique. Beautiful cards were sent to the physicians and the dead Doctor's grave decorated with flowers.

We have observed that National Doctor's Day is celebrated on different dates in different countries. Whatever the date may be, the objectives are the same. This day is all about making an effort to make doctors aware of their duties, responsibilities. This day teaches them to remain aware of their roles in society. So the medical profession gets an overall boost on National Doctors Day.

National Doctor's Day Theme 2021
In 2021, we are all suffering from the COVID-19 situation. In such a situation, the doctors are the leaders who are trying their level best to keep the nation safe and healthy. Keeping the 2021 scenario in mind, National Doctor's Day has become more vital. It concludes that this day is a recognition of physicians' contributions to the lives of individuals and communities.
Unfortunately, the theme of National Doctor's Day 2021 is yet not revealed. It is the Indian Medical Association that announces the theme of National Doctor's Day every year. Like they declared the theme of National Doctor's Day 2019 "Zero tolerance to violence against doctors and clinical establishment”.
