Moving on can feel like losing a part of yourself because that person, place, or phase became a part of your identity. Your memories, habits, and emotions were connected to it, so letting go can feel like you’re losing a piece of who you are.

You’re also not just leaving something behind—you’re leaving behind the version of yourself that existed in that time. That can feel uncomfortable and unfamiliar.

Your brain doesn’t like change, even if it’s good for you. It holds on to what feels known and safe, which makes moving on feel like loss instead of growth.

But the truth is, you’re not losing yourself—you’re growing. You’re making space for a new version of you, shaped by what you’ve learned, not erased by it.
