Cricket was invented by the Britishers and they made the sport popular by colonizing different countries. They colonized the Americans too and cricket was among the more popular sport in America in the mid-19th century but soon the popularity of cricket started vanishing due to the introduction of baseball. Baseball is a similar sport to cricket as it also requires bat and ball. Some people argued that Baseball became more popular than cricket because of it's shorter durations, simpler rules and the fact that it didn't require dedicated field helps like cricket but these claims are hard to evaluate. But according to the facts marketing played an integral in the rise of baseball. After a decade of the civil war America was developing very fastly and at that time many baseball promoters sensed the opportunity and started many clubs of baseball in the different states of the country and this was the actual time where baseball overshadowed cricket and it even resulted in many cricket players joining the baseball clubs. The changing culture was another disadvantage for cricket as Cricket was mainly played by Anglo-Indians but as the generations passed new immigrants and their children adopted America's baseball as their first choice sports. The financial number wasn't even supporting cricket as the bigger field and a number of equipment were way costlier than that of baseball. So, this is the reason why cricket is not famous in America.
