Gurmeet Ram Rahim is a leader in the Dera Sacha Sauda religious sect based in India. He is known for his flashy jewelry and brightly coloured clothes. He stars in a film franchise called "Messenger of God". The Dera Sacha Sauda sect says it was founded in April 1948 and claims to have 60 million followers. Ram Rahim gets life imprisonment for murdering the journalist Ramchandra Chhatarpati. A special CBI court awarded him life-term via video conferencing.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insaan who is popularly known as MSG is the head of the Indian social group Dera Sacha Sauda(DSS) since the year 1990. He was a religious leader, actor, singer, writer, songwriter, composer, director, and so on.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh along with four other companions who are Krishan Lal, Jasbir Singh, Avtar Singh, and sabdil was sentenced to life imprisonment by the bench of the special CBI court on Monday. They were found guilty in the murder case of Ranjit Singh in 2002. In 2017 Ram Rahim was sentenced to twenty years of imprisonment for raping two disciples.
Ranjit Singh, manager of Dera who was also a follower of the sect was shot dead on 10th July 2002 at Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra, Haryana by the conspiracy of the Dera. In the charge sheet made by the CBI, Ram Rahim believed that Ranjit Singh was the one who had circulated an anonymous letter which narrated how women were sexually exploited by the sect head at the Dera headquarters and hatched a conspiracy to kill him.
HPS the special CBI prosecutor said that the hearing was held under very tight security. He went on saying that Ram Rahim was also fined rupees thirty-one lakh and fifty thousand on each remaining accused and half of the fined money will go to the victim’s family as a mode of compensation. The victim’s family statement has been recorded and they said they are very happy with the verdict and it has been a very long battle and they went on saying how traumatized they were and they had lived in fear but they managed to fight against the injustice and in the end justice has prevailed.
