Hair loss or baldness is a common problem faced by both men and women. It can happen because of many reasons such as genetics, stress, poor diet, hormonal imbalance, medical conditions, pollution, or improper hair care. While some hair loss is natural, there are several ways to reduce the risk of baldness and maintain healthy hair for a longer time.

One of the most important ways to avoid baldness is maintaining a healthy diet. Hair needs nutrients like protein, iron, zinc, biotin, and vitamins to grow properly. Eating foods such as eggs, fish, nuts, green vegetables, fruits, and dairy products can improve hair strength and reduce hair fall.

Stress management is also very important. High stress levels can increase hair loss in both men and women. Activities like yoga, meditation, exercise, proper sleep, and relaxation techniques help reduce stress and improve overall hair health.

Good hair care habits can also prevent damage. People should avoid:

  • Excessive heat styling
  • Harsh chemical treatments
  • Tight hairstyles
  • Frequent coloring or bleaching
  • Using low-quality hair products

Washing hair regularly with a mild shampoo and keeping the scalp clean helps maintain healthy hair growth.

Genetics is one of the biggest causes of baldness, especially in men. This condition is often called male pattern baldness. Women can also experience hair thinning due to hormonal changes, pregnancy, menopause, or thyroid problems. In such cases, consulting a dermatologist or hair specialist can help identify the cause early.

There are also medical treatments available for hair loss. Products like Minoxidil are commonly used to slow hair loss and support hair growth. Some men also use Finasteride under medical supervision. However, treatments should only be used after consulting a qualified doctor.

Scalp massage with natural oils like coconut oil, rosemary oil, or almond oil may improve blood circulation and support healthier hair. Staying hydrated and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol consumption can also benefit hair health.

Early treatment is important because hair loss is easier to manage in the beginning stages. Ignoring continuous hair fall may make recovery more difficult later.

Men have more DHT, that is dihydrotestosterone hormone. Female pattern baldness is different than male pattern baldness because of some difference in androgen reception. Men undergo vertex and crown balding while women just have crown balding.

There could be many causes of hair fall which include genetics, diet, mineral deficiency, medications, stress and pollution. Putting on a cap or a helmet could be one of the reasons in men. Here is the list of solutions to help reduce hair loss:

De-stress yourself
Keep yourself away from drinking alcohol and smoking
Wash your hair with mild shampoo
VitaminE intake since it betters blood circulation in the scalp to help hair follicles remain productive
Massage your scalp with essential oils
Do not brush wet hair
Rub garlic juice, onion juice or ginger juice on your scalp, leave it overnight. Do it regularly for a week and experience the desired change

According to statistics, permanent hair loss affects 70% of men and 40% of women in their lifetimes. This massive difference is due to some reasons and one of the major reason is how men are more prone to a condition known as androgenic alopecia. This is something that is a genetic condition where the hair loss starts at the temples and recedes back to form the shape of the letter ‘M’. The condition increases activity of the androgen receptors in the hair follicles. These receptors respond to androgens like dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a by-product of testosterone that shrinks hair follicles and makes it hard for them to live.Since men are constantly producing testosterone throughout their lives and so it makes them more likely to lose their hair than women.

There are medicines like rogaine ,propecia or provisions for hair transplant like follicular unit transplantation and follicular unit extraction. But these medicines can merely stop the loss of hair but they do not restore the hair that is lost.
