According to statistics, permanent hair loss affects 70% of men and 40% of women in their lifetimes. This massive difference is due to some reasons and one of the major reason is how men are more prone to a condition known as androgenic alopecia. This is something that is a genetic condition where the hair loss starts at the temples and recedes back to form the shape of the letter ‘M’. The condition increases activity of the androgen receptors in the hair follicles. These receptors respond to androgens like dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a by-product of testosterone that shrinks hair follicles and makes it hard for them to live.Since men are constantly producing testosterone throughout their lives and so it makes them more likely to lose their hair than women.
There are medicines like rogaine ,propecia or provisions for hair transplant like follicular unit transplantation and follicular unit extraction. But these medicines can merely stop the loss of hair but they do not restore the hair that is lost.
