I am not surprised that these words have come from the giant campaigner of BJP and the current UP CM, Yogi Adityanath. I mean, what would you expect from the leaders of a political party which functions and rules according to the ideologies of RSS.
We just can’t deny that BJP is deeply rooted in patriarchy, Manuvad, and fascism. And it is the result of the mixture of these ideologies that the ministers of the party pass such problematic statements so conveniently and casually.

I also feel anger. Because this is the same party which was shouting in every street, ‘Bahot Hua Nari Par Vaar, Abki Baar Modi Sarkar’. And of course, the party which raised the slogan of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”, for which it has been backlashed many times.
I also feel anger at the fact that when India is striving to modernize and move forward, and when the woman Prime Ministers like Jacinda Ardern is being taken as an example, we are still conversing on the statements released by our ministers about the suppression of women. So what kind of development are we exactly talking about, if we, that is, are talking about any kind of development?
We have seen the brutality faced by women during the Modi regime. Many women right activists have been beaten, abused, and even harassed under the slogans of “Beti Bachao”. So this kind of statement doesn’t surprise me much.
The statement on which we are focusing right now is itself from the text, Manusmriti, which dictates us to follow patriarchal and casteist ways.
The statement fully reads:
“women are not capable of being left free or independent…women need male protection from birth to death… a woman is protected in her childhood by her father, by her husband in her youth and by her son in her old age.”
So now we know what kind of texts and scriptures are the source of information and inspiration for Modi Government.
