How do you type a ² (squared symbol)?

Have a go at holding down one of the Alt keys and composing 0178 on the NumPad (with NumLock ON) at that point discharging the Alt key for the ² (for example squared) image. Cubed (for example ³) is Alt+0179 and there are a large group of others (both supersript and subscript) inside the Unicode character set beginning around the U+2070 region. Utilize the utility program Character Map (Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Character map or charmap.exe) for some others.

Obviously, you could simply superscript an ordinary 2 with Ctrl+Shift+Plus.
