A renowned (and revered) figure as Jayalalitha, it’s hard to pinpoint the “unknown facts”. So many people knew her—and so much of her life is like an open book. Indeed, she would have darker secrets with her (which politician doesn’t!)—but those secrets won’t be known in the mainstream, would it!

That being said, depending on how much you know her, here are some known and unknown facts about Jayalalitha:

· During her first stint as the state’s Chief Minister, Jayalalitha took only Re 1 as salary. She claimed that she already has many sources of income; so, she doesn’t need money. This is the lowest salary for any Chief Minister in Indian history.

· People know that Jayalalitha was a South Actress in the earlier stage of her life—featuring in 85 Tamil movies. But few people know that her first movie, when she was just 15 years old, was an “adult only” movie. Even Jayalalitha herself couldn’t watch that movie at the time because she was underage.

· Jayalalitha also did one Bollywood movie. She was featured opposite Dharmendra in a Hindi movie name “Izzat”.

· Originally, Jayalalitha wanted to be a lawyer. But her debut movie became such a success, under her mother’s influence, she decided to be an actor.

· The deceased Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was a bright, studious and intellectual individual. She topped in her Matriculation exams. Also, it is known that she was an avid reader. She would carry English Novels everywhere she traveled. In addition, Jayalalitha was also a good Tamil writer. She authored one novel and was a regular contributor in Tamil weeklies. And if that’s not all, she was also fluent in many languages: English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu.

· This one is very common, but here it goes: Jayalalitha was the first ever woman leader of opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

· Jayalalitha got her name “Jayalalitha” only after one year since birth. When she was born, she originally got her grandmother’s name: Koamalavalli.

· These are 7 known and unknown facts about Jayalalitha, a politician with a larger than life person. The country will certainly never see someone like her in politics ever.
