what is solar storm?

The term Solar storm refers to a phenomenon in which all the activities done on the sun interferes the Earth's magnetic field. This is so devastating event. Solar storms occur as a result of events such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections. These events generate a so-called solar wind too. One of the famous and disastrous event of solar storm is "Carrington Event". This event disturbs the whole electromagnetism in all over the world.

A solar light up or storm is an intense blow up of radiation from the release of magnetic energy from sunspots. They are seen as bright areas on the sun and they can last from minutes to hours.If this happens on the face of sun that is facing the earth the flares can travel out directly from the flare site,we can see the flare and can be affected by it too. These storms can disrupt electric power grids and damage oil and gas pipelines. Exposure of spacecraft to solar flare can cause temporary operational disruptions, damage electronics and blind optical systems.

Even the most powerful flares are barely visible from the sun because of its radiance. Sunspots are black spots on the sun’s surface and they appear black because they are cooler than other parts of the Sun's surface.Solar flares produce high energy particles and radiation that are dangerous to living things. If Earth happens to be in the path of a Coronal Mass Ejections from the solar flare, the charged debris can hit our atmosphere, stop satellites functioning in orbit and even cause them to fail, and shower high-flying airplanes with radiation.
