What is the difference between CRPF and BSF forces?

Both CRPF and BSF forces are for the security of the civilians. The difference between CRPF and BSF lies in the way of functioning of the two.
Border Security Force (BSF):

The refugees that try to cross the border are also controlled and stopped by the BSF. It guards the territorial area of along with Indian army and also stops illegal immigration. The commandos and para commandos of BSF help in raiding the sites dealing with illegal activities.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF):

To control and fight with terrorists also comes under the task of CRPF Jawans. In addition, they give protection to VIPs and execute rescue and relief operations at the time of disasters and calamities.
It is also responsible for the security at the time of elections.
